And when it comes to the holidays, braces can be a difficult thing to navigate! Many of the treats we love to enjoy during the holiday season are hard, gooey, or sticky, posing a major threat to braces. To help you enjoy the holidays without hurting your braces, here are a few braces friendly recipes that are sure to bring cheer to those with and without braces!
Peach Frozen Yogurt
What's better than peach pie and a scoop of ice cream? Peach pie and a scoop of peach frozen yogurt! This is a simple recipe that's sure to wow everyone once dessert comes around.
- 16 oz of frozen peaches
- 1 tub of frozen yogurt (a quart works well)
- 1/2 of a small lemon, juiced
- 2-3 tbsp of honey
Making it couldn't be easier. Just throw everything into a blender or food processor, blend until nice and creamy, and dig in! Peach pie is optional – but highly recommended!
Maple Glazed Carrots
Carrots are a holiday favorite, but they certainly don't have to be boring! This deliciously sweet carrot recipe will be the perfect accompaniment to any holiday plate.
- 2 lbs of carrots, peeled & cut into rounds
- 1/2 tsp salt & pepper
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp butter, unsalted
First, throw the carrots into a large skillet with the salt (but not the pepper) and 1 cup of water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium and cover, letting the carrots cook until tender, usually about 8 minutes. Next, add in the butter, syrup, and pepper, and stir constantly over medium heat for the next 5 minutes. Once everything has cooked down to a gooey glaze, serve it hot alongside your favorite holiday meal!
S'mores – Indoors!
S'mores are a classic for enjoying during the winter, but unfortunately, most of us don't have a campfire accessible at all times. Luckily, this indoor s'mores recipe makes it easy to enjoy the yummy goodness of s'mores right from a frying pan!
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 8 large marshmallows (or the equivalent volume of small marshmallows)
- 1 box of graham crackers (or as many as you need)
First, preheat the oven to 450º. In a cast iron skillet (or other baking dish), pour in the chocolate chips and smooth out until they're arranged in an even layer. If you're using large marshmallows, cut them in half and lay them out covering the chocolate chips. If you're using small marshmallows, just splay them out as a roughly even covering. Place the whole skillet into the oven and bake for 7-9 minutes, or until the marshmallows are golden brown. Carefully remove the skillet and use the graham crackers for dipping – just try to let everyone else have a turn, too!
