What Is TMJ?

The "Temporomandibular Joint," more commonly referred to as the "jaw joint," connects the lower jaw bone to the skull and assists in the basic opening and closing movements of the jaw. Unfortunately, this joint can become inflamed or disconnected over time, and can be a common area for recurring pain.

What Are Symptoms of TMD?

Patients who suffer from TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) frequently suffer from the following symptoms:

  • Jaw pain
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Head and neck aches
  • Clicking
  • Popping
  • Muscle spasms in the jaw
  • In severe cases, locked or limited opening of the jaw

Patients with TMD have shifting of the jaw, and therefore teeth that may not fit together properly, which can cause an increase in symptoms.
